Last Friday, the City of Fountain Valley hosted its first Disaster Preparedness Expo. The event, held at The Center at Founders Village, was well attended and ran from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Residents had an opportunity to speak with representatives from several county agencies including Red Cross, Orange County Sanitation, Alert OC and several departments from the City. The goal of the event was to bring awareness to residents regarding what services may or may not be immediately available after a disaster. Additionally, agencies shared tips and steps people can take to prepare their homes and families so they are ready if a disaster strikes. Preparing for a disaster, such as an earthquake or other emergency, includes having an emergency kit that includes at least a three-day food and water supply for each member of your family – including pets, having a communication plan and discussing the plan with your family as well as taking classes in CPR and learning how to Stop the Bleed.
