The City of Fountain Valley’s Coyote Management Plan relies on residents reporting coyote sightings, aggressive behavior, and coyote attacks on pets and humans. These reports are used to triage the appropriate response by the City, County, and State agencies. Although residents have been reporting coyote incidents, some residents may have questions on the response on those calls by City and County agencies.Residents should call 9-1-1 if there is an active coyote attack or if an aggressive coyote will not leave areas such as backyards and schools after hazing has been attempted. FVPD Officers will respond and FVPD Dispatchers will also contact OC Animal Care to respond. OC Animal Care Officers will take the lead on the attack investigation and on handling aggressive coyotes.If there has been a significant delay in reporting a pet attack and there is no longer an immediate danger, residents should call OC Animal Care at (714) 935-6848. They will respond to the residence or a veterinary medical facility if the pet is still alive. In the unfortunate event where the pet has died, OC Animal Care will only respond to a residence to assist with the remains at the owner’s request. They will not respond to a veterinary medical facility. In instances where residents contact OC Animal Care for assistance, those calls will be documented and those reports will be forwarded FVPD for tracking purposes. For sightings only, residents should call the FVPD business line at (714) 593-4485 so those incidents can be documented and tracked.
